Our Story
My grandmother, affectionately known as Moms, was raised at Mount Hillaby, the highest point on the island of Barbados. The hibiscus flower grew in abundance at Hillaby, my family's ancestral home. Over time it became Moms’ favorite flower. So much so that she created numerous oil paintings of the hibiscus in her later years. She remains a significant force in my life, as she was responsible for nurturing me to be the best I can be, caring about others, and always striving to do my best work. She would say to me, “Your work is never done.” Now, every time I see a hibiscus flower I think of this guiding force in my life, Moms.

Meet Anita
Master Educator & Student Tutor
With thirty-three years of classroom teaching experience, I am well known to have a unique ability to assess the academic strengths and weaknesses of upper elementary and middle school students. I firmly believe that through clear, direct instruction and guidance, all students can develop strong time management and organizational skills, and become more effective learners.

I provide individual, customized, one on one tutoring sessions. My first goal is to make clear to my students what skills and talents they already have. This empowers them to move forward, build confidence and self-esteem, and produces light bulb moments. I create a special rapport with my students, providing a comfortable, safe learning environment to encourage growth.

An essential facet of my work is providing students with strategies for reading non-fiction text and showing them how to synthesize and organize salient information using valuable note-taking techniques.

I develop executive functioning skills by teaching strategies for goal-setting, cognitive flexibility, organizing and prioritizing, accessing working memory, and self-monitoring to empower students to succeed in the classroom and promote students’ strengths in social-emotional areas thereby reducing anxiety and stress in the context of the school.
